The price of the anti-inflammatory drug infliximab is up by Rs 1,000 per tablet from Rs 3,125 in 2009 to Rs 7,125 in 2011.
The price of Zocor is up by Rs 1,000 per tablet from Rs 3,125 in 2010 to Rs 7,125 in 2011.
AstraZeneca said its prices for its cholesterol-lowering drugs, Nexium and Zocor, were also up by Rs 1,000 per tablet from Rs 3,125 in 2010 to Rs 7,125 in 2011.
The drug, which was developed by AstraZeneca’s subsidiary, Lilly, had already been withdrawn from the market and the US government will be required to approve it in mid-2011, the company said.
“Lilly’s decision to sell Zocor in the US and to drop its patent on the drug was announced by US Senator Arlen H. Lipstern on Friday. AstraZeneca was the first to launch this medicine in the US in April 2010 and has been in a position of strength in the US,” the company said.
